The 2014 Rom (Yarden) is a roughly equal blend of Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon with 14% Merlot added in, all aged for 18 months in new French oak. It comes in at 14.5% alcohol. When last seen, this had beautiful finesse and seemed to be on the upswing, understated but compelling. Revisiting it now shows a bit of a different story. It's a pleasure to drink, to be sure, but it projects only modest depth and length, at least for a wine at this level. Its elegance is appealing, as is the complex flavor profile, but at least at the moment, this seems to be going in the wrong direction rather than notably improving. Perhaps it has closed a bit and will come back, although I don't think the grandeur of the wine will ever come close to matching the grandeur of the "suggested retail" price point (and I've seen the 2013 selling for much more on the street). I'm still leaning up a little, but let's be a bit more conservative this time
